A unique collection of powerful portraits captured by the British Photographer Patrick Steel.

At the young age of 21, Patrick naturally assumed that a one to one photo shoot with James would be completely unattainable. Nonetheless, he chanced his luck and penned a letter to the 1976 World Champion requesting a private portrait sitting.

To Patrick's surprise, James replied swiftly and happily agreed to be photographed. The mesmerising portraits showcased herewith are the outcome of the private photo session which took place in July 1991. Photographed at the age of 43, only two years before he tragically and unexpectedly passed away aged 45.

These portraits are believed to be the only collection of fine art works captured of James off track and have remained unrevealed for the past thirty years.
